Megan is a senior on the women’s gymnastics team here at UNL studying advertising and public relations.

As a member of MSAC. Megan is looking for change in the UNL athletics department in how they handle prejudice and social issues that have become so prevalent.

“How many people of color have seen it so far, or anyone who’s felt any injustice, it feels like they're saying exactly what we want to hear on the surface and kind of making it on the outside look like they're really going to put effort in,” Megan said. “But the change still hasn't been made, we're still waiting for that change, we’re still waiting for them to hold up to exactly what we’ve asked for.”

One of the main focal points of MSAC’s legacy over image hashtag was the lack of diversity within Nebraska Athletics.

“It is not very diverse at all,” Megan said. “The whole time I've been there I can count on one hand how many people of color there are on the staff.”

The road to obtaining their needs outlined in the letter, however, has not been the smoothest.

“I think it’s really important for them to listen to us and take us seriously,” Megan said. “We need to use our voices as much as we can and if they really support us they will make changes for us.”

Some other demands listed in the letter include: honor to past people of color, bring in more people of color for a scoreboard site, and increase the diversity in the staff.

“We really just want admin to fully support everything on that list of demands, we want them to fully support us,” Megan said. “We want them to come out more openly about how they support us and just get right down to the core of changes we want to see.”
